Short trek around Maneybhanjan for acclimatization. Overnight
at hotel.
Day 2: Maneybhanjan – Tonglu (11kms)
The first halt at Meghma takes 4 hours from Maneybhanjan, then
to Tonglu or Tumling to an altitude of 10074 ft. Tonglu is a
miniature of Sandakphu for its magnificent view of snow ranges.
Overnight at trekkers’ hut.
Day 3: Tonglu – Gairibans (7 kms)
This trek to Gairibans passes through the natural forests of
Oak, Magnolia, Chestnut and Rhododendron. This is a beautiful
trek particularly for wild flowers and colourful birds. Overnight
at trekkers hut.
Day
4: Gairibans – Sandakphu
(15kms)
The trek gets steeper from Kalapokhri to Sandakphu. The strenuous
trek through difficult routes is worth the breathtaking view
of the majestic Kanchenjungha the third highest peak in the
world. In a clear day even Mt Everest is visible from Sandakphu.
Day 5: Sandakphu – Phalut
(22kms)
The next day trek from Sandakphu- Phalut is about 22km. This
part is perhaps the best of all the treks. Phalut lies on the
borders of West Bengal, Sikkim and the eastern border of Nepal.
The trek winds along the Singalila
ridge, which passes through desolate hills and alpine meadows
covered with patches of forest. At Phalut, one can have real
close look at the Kanchedzonga and experience the spectacle
of circular rainbows. There is a trekker’s hut at Molley, half
way between Sandakphu and Phalut. Those, who do not want to
cover 22 kms in one day, can take one night halt at Molley.
Day
6: Phalut – Gorkhay (13kms).
From Phalut the way descends to Gorkhey. It’s a steep down trek
through dense forests. Overnight at Trekkers’ hut.
Day 7: Gorkhay/Rimbik (14kms).
The trek through the dense forests of Rhododendron, silver firs,
oaks and Magnolias and Hemlocks leads you to Srikhola, a picturesque
spot by the side of a stream. Named after a small wild stream
Srikhola surrounded by dense forested hills is a beautiful location
to reduce the stress of a strenuous trek. One can see meadows
clustered with blue iris, orchids and colourful birds. A further
6 km leads to a small village Rimbik, which connects Maneybhanjan
and Darjeeling (51km) by road.
Day 8: Drive back to Bagdogra for onward / return flight
