Day 1: Siliguri/Darjeeling - Maneybhanjan
Pick up from Siliguri and drive to Maneybhanjan. The treks to
Sandakphu start from Maneybhanjan a small village at 32 kms
from Darjeeling. Overnight at Hotel. Day
2: Maneybhanjan – Tonglu (11kms)
Treks starts in the morning. The first halt at Meghma takes
4 hours from Maneybhanjan, then to Tonglu or Tumling. This is
a beautiful trek particularly for wild flowers and colourful
birds. Overnight at Trekkers’ hut. Day 3: Tonglu – Sandakphu (22 kms)
We start for Sandakphu, the mountain of poisonous plants. Halfway
to Sandakphu is the settlement of Kala- Pokhri (the Black water
pond) at 2750m. The strenuous trek through difficult routes
is worth the breathtaking view of the majestic Kanchenjungha
the third highest peak in the world, from Sandakphu. Overnight
at Trekkers’ hut. Day 4: Sandakphu – Srikhola (18kms)
After a fabulous sunrise over the snow ranges we descend down
to Shrikhola through dense mixed forest of Rhododendron, magnolia
and oaks. Named after a small wild stream Srikhola surrounded
by dense forested hills is a beautiful location to reduce the
stress of a strenuous trek. There is beautiful trekkers’ hut
at Srikhola by the side of the stream. One can see meadows clustered
with blue iris, orchids and colourful birds. Overnight at Trekkers’
hut. Day 5: Shrikhola – Rimbik (6kms)
At a leisurely space we reach Rimbik, a small village, which
connects Maneybhanjan and Darjeeling (51km) by road. After a
refreshment at Rimbik we proceed to Darjeeling or Siliguri by
car.
