Trek to Maenam hill overlooking the Ravangla
bazaar settlement is also a great way to enjoy the abundant
beauty of Sikkim Himalayas. The trek takes 3 hrs to reach the
Maenam hilltop through the Maenam Wildlife Sanctuary. A lush
green canopy of untouched rhododendron magnolia forest, small
bamboo and abundant flowers and orchids, moss, ferns and creepers
make the trek an exciting and thrilling experience.
 One
can also have a glimpse of rare Red Panda or Black beer on the
way. Situated at an altitude of over 9000ft Maenam offers great
view of the Kunchenjunga mountains along with rolling plains
of North Bengal. The view of the great Tista River snaking through
deep inaccessible gorge is also very exciting. On the way to
the Maenam Hilltop there is a small Gompha containing the image
of Guru Padmasambhava.
From Maenam one can go to Borong village –
a small Lepcha settlement on the picturesque valley. Further
up from Maenam hill goes to Bhaledunga at an altitude of 10,300ft.
The view of the snow ranges and valleys, Bengal plains in south
and Indo-China boarder on the North is really astounding.
