Paddling on the raftInternational Scale for gradation of rapid

Grade I - Simple. Very few or no obstructions; Placid but fast moving water; Risk to swimmers is minimum.

Grade II - Beginner. Wide and clear channels with occasional rapids; rocks and medium-sized waves are present but easily negotiable by trained paddlers; minimum risks for swimmers; assistance hardly required.

Waves of moderate and irregular rapids which may sometimes be difficult to avoid; fast current and narrow passages; large waves, holes and strainers may be present but are easily avoided; swimmers are unlikely to be injured but assistance may be needed to avoid a long swim.

Non-swimmers are welcome in the above three grades but presence of the trained paddlers in the raft is required

whirlpool rafting in tistaGrade IV - Advanced. Strong, commanding rapids; turbulent water; may involve long, unavoidable rapids, narrow passages or holes demand fast maneuvers; risk of injury to swimmers is moderate to high; swimmers requires practiced skills and group assistance.

Grade V - Professional. Long, turbulent rapids; presence of very large unavoidable waves, holes and steep channels; rescue is extremely difficult; above average rescue skills are essential.

Grade VI - Difficult. Steep powerful falls, Very dangerous; risks are high and rescue is almost impossible. Difficulties of Grade V are carried to the limits of navigability; for teams of experts only under favorable conditions.
