| Maneybhanjan
Maneybhanjan is situated at an altitude of
6600ft above sea level on the Indo-Nepal border. Maneybhanjan
is a small business town in Sukhia Pokhri Police station and
is 32kms from Darjeeling town by
road via Ghoom. Although Maneybhanjan
does not have much tourist attraction in itself, it is a very
very important place in popular Sandakphu
Phalut trekking route in Singalila
range. All trekkers going to the famous trek to Sandakphu has
to stay one night at Maneybhanjan for acclimatisation before
the start of the trek.
Despite being a crowded market Maneybhanjan
provides a panoramic view of the glorious Kunchanjungha Mountains
over Darjeeling hills. The view of illuminated Darjeeling town
at night from Maneybhanjan is also very attractive. There is
a small monastery overlooking the vast Darjeeling valley which
is a nice place for a short stroll.
There
are some small trekkers' huts and home-turned-hotels in the
market providing basic accommodation in Maneybhanjan. Although
these hotels are not luxurious by any means, trekkers won't
mind staying one night in these hotels, as worm hospitality
of the Tibetan and Nepali hotel owners and the excitement of
a much-awaited trek in Sandakphu on the following day will help
a sound night sleep ignoring all minor issues.
Foreigners have to show their Passport and
Visa at the Foreigners' Check Post at Maneybhanjan. |
