Types
of Track
Biking tracks are internationally categorized
into several groups.
SINGLETRACK - A singletrack trail is only wide
enough for a single bike. naturebeyond tours are not organized
in singletrack trails.
DOUBLETRACK - A doubletrack is a trail wide
enough for two bikes. It requires less ability and is good for
beginners.
DIRT ROADS - These roads are used by a wide
range of vehicles. This makes them very easy to plan a good
ride on.
LOGGING
ROADS - These roads are specific roads in forests mainly
used by forest vehicles. Driving in logging roads in the region,
you should take extra precaution as wild animals especially
elephants are not uncommon here.
METAL ROADS – The usual roads for plying of
vehicles is also often used for mountain biking. In parts of
the hills it is difficult to distinguish between the Metal roads
and dirt roads.
naturebeyond tour programs are organized
mostly in Dirt Roads and Metal Roads. Since biking is a new
adventure activity in the Darjeeling Sikkim region, there is
no track designated specifically for the mountain bikers. In
most of the cases the bikers has to share the track along with
other vehicles. naturebeyond biking tours are organized in relatively
less used tracks.
