| Mongar

At
an altitude of 5250 feet, Mongar is 198 km from Bumthang and
is about 7 hours journey. The journey takes you through the
4000 meters high Thrumsing-la pass ends at the town of Mongar
in eastern Bhutan. It takes about seven hours to reach Mongar
from Bumthang.
The waterfalls, sleek curves and lush vegetation
on the way provides spectacular views. This journey is through
one of the highest motorable roads of the country. The road
remains closed in the winter as it is fully covered with snow.
Mongar
Dzong : The original Mongar Dzong was destroyed by
fire and a new Dzong was constructed nearby in 1930 by the orders
of the Third King Jigme Dorje Wangchuk. The Dzong depicts the
ancient cultural architecture of Bhutan.
The carcass of the old Dzong can be seen from the way to the
new one.
Annual festival is held in Mongar during the
months of November and December. |
