At an altitude of 5250 feet, Mongar is 198 km from Bumthang and is about 7 hours journey. The journey takes you through the 4000 meters high Thrumsing-la pass ends at the town of Mongar in eastern Bhutan. It takes about seven hours to reach Mongar from Bumthang.

The waterfalls, sleek curves and lush vegetation on the way provides spectacular views. This journey is through one of the highest motorable roads of the country. The road remains closed in the winter as it is fully covered with snow.

Mongar Dzong : The original Mongar Dzong was destroyed by fire and a new Dzong was constructed nearby in 1930 by the orders of the Third King Jigme Dorje Wangchuk. The Dzong depicts the ancient cultural architecture of Bhutan. The carcass of the old Dzong can be seen from the way to the new one.
