| Lhuentse
At
a distance of about 77 km from Mongar
is the location of Lhuentse. A three hour drive from Mongar
takes you to this is one of the remotest corners of Bhutan.
Dense virgin forests, high mountains, native people and their
culture makes this place unique. The place is also famous for
distinctive weaving activities, embroidery, basket-making and
Kushutara (brocade dress). Suitable accommodation here is scares
and a day visit is preferable.
What to see in Lhuentse :
Lhuentse Dzong : The approach to this Dzong
(fort) is through a flag-stone-paved path over the vertical
drops. The Dzong houses a body of 100 monks of the country.
In the 16th century Pema Lingapa's son Kunga Wangpo set up this
Dzong in the form of a small Gompa. In 1654 it was renovated
by the Trongsa penlop Mingyur Tenpa. |
