| Bumthang
Situated
in the east-central part of Bhutan
and about 250 kilometers from Thimphu,
this small and beautiful town is the place where the Buddhism
first took hold in Bhutan. A number of monasteries naturally
flock the landscape here. Most of the apple grooves are situated
also situated in Bumthang adding to the attraction of the town.
What to see in Bumthang :
Jambey Lhakhang monastery : Tibetan
king Songtsen Gampo build this monastery in the 7th Century.
It was made with an intention to protect the Himalayan kingdom
from the evil spirits.
Jakar
Dzong : This fort is currently the administrative center
of the Bhumthang valley. The fort was originally build by the
great grandfather of the first Shabdrung in 1549. It is also
the house of the regional monk body.
Kurje Lhakhang : There are three temples
in this Lhakhang. The temple on the right was built in 1652
in the place where Guru Padmasambhava meditated. The next one
in the middle is considered as most holy. The last temple was
made in 1990s by H.M.Ashi Keshang. There is a surrounding of
108 chorten wall by the side of the temples.
Tamshing Lhakhang : This temple was
found in the year 1501 by Terton Pema Lingpa across the river
from Kurje Lakhang. The main attraction of the temple is the
old religious paintings on the inner walls of the temple, restored
at the end of the 19th century. |
